Building and Capital Improvement
Committee
Recently,
after a slow start, improvements to our building finally began.
You may remember that earlier this year Holy Martyrs contracted
with a local engineer to assess the building and infrastructure,
and to provide us with a ten-year capital improvement plan. The
plan is broken down annually and it progressively outlines the
needed repairs and installations for each year. Preceding the
ten-year plan was a short list of "immediate needs"
that all agreed should (and would) be escalated. Some examples
of these items include a fire-suppression system for the kitchen,
new smoke detectors and fire warning systems for the building
in general, GFCI electrical outlets in the kitchen, bathroom,
and boiler room areas, and building stairwell modifications necessary
to meet present code requirements. Also being given priority
is painting the wall at the front of the church (to the left
and right of the altar) and lighting modifications in the church
itself. In the weeks to come, you may notice different types
of lights and concepts being tried as we experiment to determine
the best possible solution.
